What is Android Auto & What does Android Auto Do? --OUSMIN

What is Android Auto?

Android Auto is a mobile application developed by Google that can be installed on Android phones.

Android Auto works on phones with Android 6.0 or higher. Android Auto is built into phones with Android 10 or higher. Other lower version phones require drivers to download and install the Android Auto app.

You need to connect your Android smartphone to the car via USB or Bluetooth to pair the Android Auto on your phone with a compatible car audio unit in your car. This allows drivers access to smartphone functions in the car through the car's infotainment screen, which is much more safer and more convenient.

What does Android Auto Do?

After the Android phone is paired with the head unit of the car, many applications on the phone will be displayed on the car screen, and touching the icons of these applications will correspondingly play music, navigate, or check the weather, etc. If you want to increase or decrease the apps displayed on the car's touchscreen, you can set it in your phone's Android Auto app.

A large number of Android smartphone applications are compatible with Android Auto, such as GPS navigation, music playback, phone calls and text messages, web search, etc.

GPS Maps and Navigation: Google Maps and Waze

Audio: YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Podcasts and Spotify, etc

Calls and Texts (Messaging apps): Google Messages, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, Skype, Signal, and Telegram, etc.

You can operate the above applications on the car stereo by touching the screen with your hand. But if you want to keep your hands free, you can also wake up the Google Assistant to access these features via hands-free voice commands, which will reduce driver distraction.

Google Assistant works just like it does on your phone, so you can verbally ask for the weather, the latest sports news, and more. You can also ask the assistant for directions to a specific location, play music, send a text message, or make a phone call (much safer than picking up your phone while driving).
